Women of MoJo

If there is one thing we’ve learned, it’s that there are many misconceptions about women in the pest control industry. So while we could write a blog post about why women are a good fit for Mosquito Joe, we thought there were a few people who could do a better job. In our blog series, Women of MoJo, we highlight the incredible women that are a part of the MoJo family and why it is no longer a man’s world!

This month we’re introducing you to one of our newest franchisees, Anne Johnson.  Anne is the Owner of Mosquito Joe of the Sandhills, servicing Fayetteville, NC and the surrounding areas. She decided to purchase her own MoJo franchise after working as an office manager at another location. I guess you could say she caught the bug for franchising! Check out our talk with Anne below.

What motivated you to get involved in Mosquito Joe?

The motivation came from my daughter, Julie Green, who just happens to work at the corporate office. She called me one day after I had just resigned from my corporate job with plans to semi-retire and asked me if I would be interested in working for one of the Mosquito Joe franchisees who had an office manager opening. She told me I could work remotely which has always been appealing to me as I have been able to work from home for most of my career. This gave me the opportunity to see just how happy customers were with the products and service. I also saw how happy my daughter was and how the company nurtured her growth and expanded her career path and that made me think about possibly purchasing my own franchise. After discussion with my husband and stepson, we realized that the Sandhills area of North Carolina was available – which is where we live. My stepson, Jonathan Johnson, and I purchased the franchise in 2016 and opened for business in April of 2017.

How would you describe the Mosquito Joe community?

The startup of a Mosquito Joe franchise is absolutely the best. You are provided with all the tools and information you need so that you can focus on building your business. All aspects of what they promise you as a franchisee are more than fulfilled, from business coaching to the latest and greatest in marketing – the corporate team does a tremendous job. Also, other franchisees across the country are available to answer questions and assist you in any way. Our customers are the most appreciative I have ever had the opportunity to service throughout my career. All the support provided by corporate and other franchisees keeps me free to make sure that we provide the best customer service to our customers.

Why is a Mosquito Joe business a good fit for women?

Mosquito Joe allows women the ability to balance their work and home life. As a grandmother, I have babysat for my grandchildren while routing vans for the next workday. My grandson even has a makeshift office for himself when he comes to spend the week during the summer. He is already learning how to answer the phone. One of the happiest moments last summer was when I heard him walk down the hall with his play phone. I heard him say “Mosquito Joe. How can I help you?” The system is set up to work with you in maintaining a life balance and not against you. 

There are often misconceptions around the pest control industry and in particular with women working in that industry (that it’s dirty, etc.); what are your thoughts on those?

The neat and clean appearance of our technicians each day removes any ideas that this is a “dirty” industry for men or women. The bug itself may present itself as “dirty” but honestly, everything about our operation is clean and pristine – from the clean appearance of our technicians, to inside and outside of our vans. 

What do you find most empowering about your job?

I love that I have direct interaction with our customers and our technicians. I enjoy the multi-tasking that takes place every day in order to own and operate your own business. All of this keeps me stimulated and motivated. As an entrepreneur, I understand that I have total control of the success of my company – and that alone empowers me every day to provide the best customer service possible.
