Professional Development Mosquito Joe

Depending on your current work environment, the term “professional development” may be something of a myth. Allowing employees the opportunity to further their skill sets is something many companies strive to provide but often come up short in doing. This is unfortunate because professional development can not only improve the efficiency of the workplace, but it can give employees confidence and innovation in their own work.

This is particularly important in the franchise industry where there is constant change, constant competition, and so many ways of doing the same thing. Whether it’s attending a conference, taking an online course, or going to a networking lunch, professional development is important to pursue as an employer and an employee to make sure you and your company are always on top of your game. As an example, here are a few reasons why attending industry conferences can be beneficial to you:

  1. Learn about your industry. It’s easy to think you know everything there is to know about your industry. You work in it every day, it’s all you think about! But attending conferences can expose you to knowledge and resources you may not have discovered before. It can also open you up to outside perspectives that can offer a fresh take on your business.
  2. Networking. Meeting other professionals in your own and ancillary industries can re-inject you with new ideas to bring back to the workplace. It also helps to know fellow professionals you can ask for future advice on the job.
  3. Learn from the Best. One of the ways the host(s) of the conference will attract attendees is by having one or more keynote speakers and panelists address the audience throughout the event. These speakers have spent years gathering expertise in your industry, which means they have something important to say, and it would bode you well to listen.
  4. Resources. Oftentimes, conferences will share the powerpoint presentations with attendees after the event, meaning you have material to bring back to work and share with your colleagues. This is on top of all the notes and observations of your own.

Recently, our Vice President of Marketing, Angela Paules, traveled to Atlanta, GA to attend the Franchise Consumer Marketing Conference, and it was a huge success! Angela was able to network with other franchise professionals, soak up marketing ideas from other franchise systems, and even share her own knowledge as a panelist in a marketing session.

Mosquito Joe highly values professional development, which is why the company encourages all corporate employees to explore opportunities in their field. These include quarterly Lunch and Learns, industry conferences, support through the Certified Franchise Executive course (CFE), and more! Benefits like this not only contribute to our employees’ professional journeys, but they also help us support our franchise partners and create a better system for everyone.
