The Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club: Paul VanWagner

Mosquito Joe continues to be a leading brand in the mosquito control industry. We now have franchisees who’ve made over $1M and some approaching $2M in gross revenue this year! Once a franchisee reaches this milestone, they’re officially part of an elite group known as the Million Dollar Club (MDC). Mosquito Joe rewards franchisees for this exceptional achievement by coming together in Napa Valley, CA for a little R&R! Over the course of two days, franchisees collaborate amongst themselves, sharing best practices and success stories. It’s truly admirable to witness the knowledge shared and relationships built throughout the duration of this event. These franchisees have earned national recognition and deserve to be rewarded for the hard work they put into their businesses day in and day out. Congratulations to our 2018 Million Dollar Club members!

We could talk all day about what it takes to join this club, but who better to describe their journeys than the members themselves? Our blog series The Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club visits with different franchise owners to talk about their franchising story. This week, we talked with Paul Van Wagner, owner of Mosquito Joe of Montgomery County. Paul joined Mosquito Joe in 2015. He currently owns 4 territories and is joining the Million Dollar Club for the first time this year. Check out our conversation with him below!

1) Why did you start looking into franchising, and why did you ultimately choose Mosquito Joe?

I was looking for a business for my son to get into that he could operate and grow with. And we wanted to find a business where we could help our community. Eliminating annoying, disease carrying insects helps everyone and our MoJo customers can make outside fun again!

2) What do you enjoy most about being a franchise owner?

I have been self-employed since I was 22 years old, so it’s in my blood. But the MoJo Franchise was highly recommended by a good friend and MoJo Zee, Kurt Godwin, and he was right on, as the Corporate support and culture of everyone in the company have been over the top. MoJo only uses the highest quality products and our customer service and communication with our customers is the best in our industry.

3) Who are the primary employees in your business and how do they contribute to your success?

The first season in 2015, my son, John, and I ran the business with one part time office staff and 4 techs. It was a real challenge as the business did much better than expected. I wanted to pull my hair out by September that first season. But it was a great way to learn the entire business and I would not change a thing now.

4) Describe your current business operation: how many employees, how many trucks, how many territories?

We hired an awesome office manager in 2016, Bari.  She runs the office and office staff. John is the operations manager and oversees the techs and support for all operations. We had 5 office staff and 21 techs for the 2018 season running 9 vans. We own 4 territories. We will always be fully staffed so we can offer the customer service our community deserves and expects.

5) What is one piece of advice you would offer to first year Mosquito Joe franchisees?

Learn it from the ground up. Learn everything you can so you will be the person training and teaching the staff the way you want them trained. The Corporate office can provide excellent training, but you may want to tweak some of that to fit your needs. Franchisees and all their staff should go to the training the Corporate office provides and reach out to existing zees for advice. Why reinvent the wheel! Much of our success is due to the support and advice we received from our good friends and MoJo Zees, Kurt and Melissa Godwin.

6) What is one piece of advice you would offer to someone just beginning their search for a franchise opportunity?

I cannot stress enough how important it was for us to have the support from the MoJo Corporate office and from other experienced MoJo Zees. This was invaluable to us. For anyone looking for a franchise opportunity, the MoJo brand is new/young enough to have exceptional growth opportunity, but old enough to also be the “Best/Top” brand in the outdoor pest control industry. I think MoJo is close to surpassing our top competitor who has been in business almost twice as long.

7) How did you feel becoming a member of the Million Dollar Club?

Making the MDC was awesome, it’s a goal we had set for our 3rd year and we just missed that, but we surpassed it in 2018 and the next goal will be 2 million in the next few years.

 8) Where do you see your Mosquito Joe business in the next 2-3 years?

We opened our last (4th ) territory in 2018 (we will only service our local community, Montgomery County, MD, so we can always provide exceptional customer service). I feel like MoJo is the “go-to” vendor for outdoor pest control in our area due to all the reasons that make us the best. We anticipate to continue our year over year growth and believe we will hit the 2 million mark in the year 2020. John and Bari will have more control of the business moving forward. The goal when we purchased the business was to provide an opportunity for our son to get into a business he could operate and help grow. It has turned into more than that, as it will also provide us with a supplement income over the coming years.

Beat the Bloodsuckers: Mosquito Control Awareness Week 2018

Each year Mosquito Joe recognizes the importance of Mosquito Control Awareness Week through our Beat the Bloodsuckers campaign. Our goal is to raise awareness in the communities in which we operate about the importance of mosquito control and the amazing work of non-profits like blood banks and Nothing But Nets. Although this week falls during one of our busiest months of the year, it does not stop our passionate franchisees from giving back in their communities. This year, National Mosquito Control Awareness Week (MCAW), recognized by the American Mosquito Control Association, fell on June 24th – June 30th, and it was a memorable week for Mosquito Joe.

Mosquitoes date back to over 100 million years, which means they’re not going anywhere anytime soon so it’s important to protect your families and furry friends. Not only are they nuisances who ruin your outdoor fun, but they can transmit dangerous diseases such as Zika, West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). The diseases mosquitoes carry make them one of the deadliest creatures on earth, responsible for over 1 million deaths every year. Luckily, here in the U.S. we’re able to combat these pesky bugs with a professional mosquito control service like Mosquito Joe. Our franchisees are dedicated to spreading awareness about mosquitoes and the illnesses they cause as well as working to fight off mosquito populations in their local areas. MCAW brings professional mosquito control to light and we’re thankful for this opportunity to give back.

Beat The Bloodsuckers
This is Mosquito Joe’s sixth year participating in our Beat the Bloodsuckers campaign. Franchisees had the opportunity to partner with a local blood bank in their area or with our philanthropic partner, Nothing But Nets. Mosquito Joe locations across the country joined with local blood banks donating 10% of new customer sales from that week to their blood bank of choice. This year we were able to donate over $7,000 and partner with 26 blood banks!

For the second year in a row, Mosquito Joe partnered with Nothing But Nets, a global grassroots campaign that was established in 2006. Since then, they’ve raised over $65 million to help deliver 12 million bed nets to families in need, along with other crucial malaria interventions like diagnostic treatments and training of healthcare workers. A mosquito net sent to someone in need is just $10; for every new Mosquito Joe customer signed during MCAW, a net was sent! This year our company raised over $24,000, sending 2,413 life-saving nets during Mosquito Control Awareness Week to those in need!

Mosquito Control Awareness Graphic 2018

The Buzz!
Our amazing franchisees were out there rocking it in their local communities to spread awareness around the importance of mosquito control. Mosquito Joe locations were featured 131 times across the U.S. and secured 14 TV segments in just one week. We’re excited so many franchisees were able to further educate their communities on mosquito control, and how important it really is to keep our families and furry friends itch-free! Check out a few highlights below:

We’re very proud of our franchisees and so happy we were able to give back to these non-profit organizations by supporting the amazing work that they do through our 2018 Beat the Bloodsuckers campaign. Mosquito Joe continues to partner with Nothing But Nets through our ongoing MoJo Bites Back campaign. To support us in our mission, consider donating to our MoJo Bites Back campaign as we raise funds for malaria and bring awareness to malaria-stricken areas. It will only cost you $10 to send a net; make a difference for a family in need today!

Thanks to our participating franchisees, each blood bank that we partnered with, Nothing But Nets, and our AMAZING customers that helped make this year’s Beat the Bloodsuckers campaign the huge success that it was.

Giving Back to the Community, MoJo Style!

Mosquito Control Awareness Week (June 24-30, 2018) is quickly approaching and there’s no better time to reflect on the passion our Corporate team and franchise partners have when it comes to fighting mosquitoes and giving back to the communities in which we operate. We are proud to show our commitment to building awareness and supporting the prevention of mosquito-borne illness through our Beat the Bloodsuckers and MoJo Bites Back campaigns, as well as incentivizing our customers and their friends through our system-wide Share the MoJo referral program. It gives us an opportunity to do what we do best while giving back to the communities we call home and those around the globe. By joining the Mosquito Joe family, you can take pride in being a part of our commitment to serving those around us.

Beat the Bloodsuckers

Every year in June, the American Mosquito Control Association recognizes Mosquito Control Awareness Week (MCAW). During this time, we educate the general public about the significance of mosquitoes in daily life and the important services provided by mosquito control experts. Mosquito Control Awareness Week is close to our hearts here at Mosquito Joe as we partner with local blood banks around the country to support the amazing work they do year-round. While we work all year long to educate our communities about mosquito control and mosquito-borne illnesses, a designated week such as this really shines the spotlight on professional mosquito control and why we need it.

MoJo Bites Back

Since we began franchising in 2012, our company’s rapid growth encouraged us to find a cause that we could partner with philanthropically to give back and share some of the success we’ve achieved as a system. We’ve had the opportunity to partner with Nothing But Nets, a global grassroots campaign whose goal is to raise awareness and funding to fight malaria. The contributions are strong and so is the relationship we’ve built with this organization and communities around the world. Our MoJo Bites Back campaign quickly began to save lives and continues to make a difference, something you can be a part of by joining our franchise family.

Share the MoJo

Don’t think we forgot about taking care of our current customers! Our Share the MoJo referral program helps those who enjoy our service spread the love and receive a reward in return. With a dedicated website, Share the MoJo gives customers the opportunity to refer a friend or family member so that they each receive a $25 account credit. It’s an easy and fun way to get people buzzing about Mosquito Joe on every block in the neighborhood. After all, friends don’t let friends get eaten, right?

Mothers of Mosquito Joe

In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked a couple of the many dynamic mothers of Mosquito Joe to buzz in on what business ownership means to them. Women represent a growing number of new business owners and mothers are a large part of that number. Mosquito Joe is fortunate to have so many awesome women dedicated to taking control of their careers and making outside fun again. Here’s what they had to share:

Owners of Mosquito Joe of Northwest Houston

Kate Gould – Mosquito Joe of Northwest Houston & S. Brazos Valley

Opened 2015

The pros to owning my own business are that I don’t have to worry about early morning daycare while I grapple with rush hour traffic to make it to my office. I am my office. I can work around the kids’ schedule and this allows me the freedom to take them to school, participate in school events, and always be a phone call away if they are sick or need to come home. As we grow in size and have folks in the office managing the day to day calls, I have more freedom to participate in family activities. College and high school graduation happens for two of my kids this month, and I will be able to travel to both ceremonies without taking vacation time away from myself.

As my kids grow older, I am also able to offer them employment in the office. They have the ability to have a summer job that pays them well, where they can learn about what I do and what it takes to run a business. This, for me, is probably the greatest bonus to running my own business. My kids really get a taste of the real world and an understanding of what it takes to be successful. I’m about to watch my eldest graduate with a bachelors in entomology, and she and I often help one another with bug identification or mosquito questions.

The biggest take away for me is that I am doing far more than earning a paycheck. I’m building a business one of them might want one day, and if they don’t, I’m creating a retirement vehicle for myself that will afford me all the time I need when it comes time for grandkids. Building a future for myself and my family is something I can’t put a price on. Showing my kids that you can be a mom, be involved, grow and manage a company is pretty huge. Especially, I think, for my girls. I much prefer proving that you can do anything you set your mind to, rather than just telling my kids they can!

Beth Sehlhorst – Mosquito Joe of East Cincinnati

Opened 2014

Owning my own business means setting an example and letting my kids be involved in the day to day. This gives them an opportunity to celebrate successes and work through challenges with me. Flexibility in my schedule to take care of little ones and working from home is nice too.

Mosquito Joe has positive ethics and moral values and a concept that relates to giving back. The business also allows us to spend time with our family and have more of a work-life balance. Having children of our own, we saw the business opportunity would not only benefit us, but could also help other families.

Owning a franchise with Mosquito Joe provides parents the flexibility to manage their business and to manage their home without missing a step.

We truly appreciate the women of Mosquito Joe for all that they contribute to our company. For more information on how you can join the Mosquito Joe family, click here to learn more. The Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club: Kurt and Melissa Godwin

2016 was the first year that some of our franchise owners made $1 million dollars or more in gross revenue.  As we like to say, they joined The Million Dollar Club. This was not only a big milestone for the Mosquito Joe franchise as a whole, but it was a tremendous victory for these business owners and the hard work they put in each and every day. Reaching the million dollar mark is an amazing achievement, one that has continued into 2017.The Million Dollar Club

We could talk all day about what it takes to join this club, but who better to describe their journeys than the members themselves? Our blog series, The Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club, visits with different franchise owners to talk about their franchising story. This week, we talked with Kurt and Melissa Godwin, Owners of Baltimore-Annapolis. Kurt and Melissa were some of our first franchise partners, joining Mosquito Joe in 2013. They currently own 6 territories and are completing their second year as members of The Million Dollar Club. Check out our conversation with them below!

Why did you start looking into franchising, and why did you ultimately choose Mosquito Joe?

Million Dollar Club

We didn’t want to go it alone in business. We chose Mosquito Joe because we liked the product, we liked the branding, and we liked the corporate team that introduced us to the concept. We also liked that the business framework was set up and ready to go on day one.

What do you enjoy most about being a franchise owner?

We like being our own bosses and being in control of our destiny. Our decisions determine our success. But, we also very much enjoy employing other people and giving hard working people opportunities and chances for success that they may not have gotten other places.

Who are the primary employees in your business and how do they contribute to your success?

We have an office manager, a routing specialist, a tech ops manager, and 22 technicians. All serve vital parts of our business. Our office manager keeps the office staff organized and pointing in the right direction as well as motivated. Our routing specialist helps keep all our trucks moving, and organized as efficiently as possible. And our technicians, of course, are the face of the business in the field and critical to our success.

Describe your current business operation: how many employees, how many trucks, how many territories?

We are operating six territories with 11 MoJo vans. We have six full time employees and 22 part time employees.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to first year Mosquito Joe franchisees?

Don’t underestimate the amount of hard work required during the busy season. Make sure you have a partner or spouse who can either help or at least understand what demands will be required during the busy season. Plus, realize that in dealing with the public, there will always be difficult people. Do not let the 10% of people who complain let you forget about the 90% that are happy with the service. Respond to problems, but don’t let it bog you down emotionally.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to someone just beginning their search for a franchise opportunity?

Make sure to find the opportunity, the model, and the mindset that works for you. You need to be happy about what you’re doing and be passionate about the success.

How did you feel becoming a member of the Million Dollar Club?

Melissa and I were both ecstatic. Hitting a goal like the Million Dollar Club was a great milestone on the way to creating a great and successful business that will continue to thrive as it grows. I think it also validates the MoJo concept and helps us to mentor others that are new. I also believe the recognition of those who have made it helps to motivate others for higher performance.

Where do you see your Mosquito Joe business in the next 2-3 years?

We would like to continue growing our 6 territories and anticipate revenue in excess of $3 million operating 16-18 trucks, with a resultant increase in personnel, creating more employment opportunities for new people as well as advancement for our current and loyal employees.

The Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club: Brad and Stephanie Simon

2016 was a big year for Mosquito Joe for many reasons. Aside from growing national recognition and establishing ourselves as a leader in the mosquito control industry, it was the first year that some of our franchise owners made $1 million dollars or more in gross revenue!  As we like to say, they joined The Million Dollar Club. This was not only a big milestone for the Mosquito Joe franchise as a whole, but it was a tremendous victory for these business owners and the hard work they put in each and every day. Reaching the million dollar mark is a tremendous achievement, one that will hopefully propel them to greater heights.

Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club

We could talk all day about what it takes to join this club, but who better to describe their journeys than the members themselves? Our newest blog series The Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club visits with different franchise owners to talk about their franchising story. This week, we talked with Brad and Stephanie Simon, Owners of Mosquito Joe of Arkansas. Brad and Stephanie were some of our first franchise partners, joining Mosquito Joe in 2013. They currently own 5 territories and are going into their second year as members of The Million Dollar Club. Check out our conversation with them below!

Why did you start looking into franchising, and why did you ultimately choose Mosquito Joe?

We looked at franchising because we had the desire to own and manage our own business but had no prior business ownership experience. The majority of new businesses fail within a very short period of time, so we did not want to take the risk of starting from scratch and figuring out everything on our own. We knew that buying into a proven system with a corporate support team and team of franchisee peers would greatly increase our chances of success.

Ultimately, we chose Mosquito Joe because we had never heard of mosquito control services in our area. It was a need that was not being fulfilled by anybody else in our market, so the business opportunity was there. Even though we had never heard of Mosquito Joe, there was a very strong brand image that kept grabbing our attention as we researched potential franchises. If we were attracted to the Mosquito Joe brand in our search, then we knew it would create a memorable impression for our potential customers.

Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club

What do you enjoy most about being a franchise owner?

We always had separate careers. Brad was in business analytics, and Stephanie was in the medical field. Being franchise owners has allowed us to build something together with the same goals – something we had never done before. It has allowed us to spend more time together as a family and develop many new friendships with other franchisees across the country. Additionally, we have seen the impact our business has on our employees. Helping provide a paycheck for our employees and helping them start or grow their career is extremely rewarding.

Who are the primary employees in your business and how do they contribute to your success?

Our employees are the key to our business’ success and always will be. As we have grown, we have given more and more responsibility to our employees and observe their behavior to see who steps up as our leaders. We have created new roles for the key employees as they demonstrate such leadership qualities and competency at the job. We now have an Office Manager that oversees all customer communications including new customer sales, invoicing, and general customer service. We also have a Lead Technician for each office location. All technicians report to the Lead Technician, and the Lead Technician is responsible for his territory’s routing, equipment maintenance, and technician scheduling. As we have grown, we are also adding a Field Manager that all Lead Technicians report to. The Field Manager is responsible for overseeing all field operations to ensure all of our territories are operating under the same standards. Each role is unique and none is more important than the other.

Describe your current business operation: how many employees, how many trucks, how many territories?

We operate 5 territories over a very large land area. Even though all 5 of our territories border each other, there is more than 4 hours of drive time and more than 300 miles from one end to the other. To manage these proximity challenges we have 3 “satellite” offices/warehouses separate from our main office in which technicians report to, supplies are stored, and trucks are stored. We currently have 25 employees and 13 trucks spread across our 5 territories.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to first year Mosquito Joe franchisees?

The one piece of advice we give new franchisees is to follow the system. Any successful business will take time to build a solid foundation. There is no need to buy in to a franchise system and then try and reinvent the wheel. Franchises are successful because there is a proven system in place. If you follow the system, then your chances of success are very good. Straying from the system will likely lead to frustration and prolong your business’ development.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to someone just beginning their search for a franchise opportunity?

Mosquito Joe Million Dollar Club

Someone beginning their franchise search needs to first consider their goals and expectations. What do you want to accomplish with your business, and are those expectations realistic for the franchise opportunity you are considering? Not all opportunities are the right opportunity. It’s tempting to get caught up in what appears to be a great opportunity, but it is critical to consider if the franchise opportunity can fulfill your goals.

How did you feel becoming a member of the Million Dollar Club?

Becoming a member of the Million Dollar Club was very exciting, but in no way do we want to view it as the finish line. We view the Million Dollar Club as a milestone toward our long-term goals. It is very exciting to see our business’ projections on paper become a reality, and it encourages us to push ourselves to the next level.

Where do you see your Mosquito Joe business in the next 2-3 years?

In 2-3 years we hope to see our business as one of the more respected companies in the areas we operate in. We hope to be consistently running revenues in the multi-million dollar level, create new positions of leadership for key employees, and be the employer of choice in our area providing excellent pay and full benefits. On a personal level, in 2-3 years we would like to see our business operating in a routine that allows us to have minimal involvement in the day-to-day operations of the business and be more involved in local volunteer and charity causes that we have a passion for.

Mosquito Joe’s Parent Company Named One of Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces

2017 has proven to be a groundbreaking year for Mosquito Joe. Not only has our franchise system grown tremendously over the past four years, but the Corporate team supporting that system has grown as well and is now gaining national attention for its accomplishments. We are thrilled to announce that Mosquito Joe’s parent company, Buzz Franchise Brands, has been named one of Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces for 2017. This ranking identifies the top companies that have created exceptional workplaces through vibrant cultures, deep employee engagement, and stellar benefits. Out of thousands of applicants, Buzz Franchise Brands was listed as one of the top 50 of just over 200 distinguished companies to be recognized.

Buzz Franchise Brands

Since its founding in 2012, Buzz Franchise Brands has ensured that the office is a place where its team wants to come to work and enjoys days spent with others on the team. Brand leaders emphasize the importance of relying on each employee’s unique strengths to contribute to the company’s overall vision. In four short years, the brand has grown from an office of five people to over thirty and from one corporate location to 235 franchise locations open across 32 states, with another 60 under development.

Inc.’s Best Workplaces Award

What does it take to become a company that workers want to be part of? Inc. Magazine says it’s more than good pay and good perks – it’s also about having a clear purpose, a sense of humor, and leadership that makes the two work together.

“We are honored to be included on the list of Inc. Magazine’s Best Places to Work. Our employees are the cornerstone of our culture and we strive to maintain an environment that attracts top talent,” said Buzz Franchise Brands CEO Kevin Wilson. “By keeping the creative juices flowing throughout our office’s open floor plan and establishing meaningful relationships that branch from our corporate team to our franchisees and their customers, we are proud to know that we are continuing to move in the right direction.”

The 2017 Inc. Best Workplaces Awards assessed applicants on the basis of benefits offered and employees’ responses to a unique, 30-question survey fielded by each of the applying companies. Responses were evaluated by the research team at Quantum Workplace. For its results to qualify, each company had to achieve a statistically significant response rate based on employee count. Survey scores account for employer size to level the playing field between small and large businesses. All companies had to have a minimum of 10 employees and to be U.S.-based, privately held, and independent – that is, not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies.

“By introducing an employee survey into this year’s Best Workplaces selection process, we’ve really raised the bar. Companies that don’t score at the very top of their peer group don’t make the cut. So, our hats are off to the winners. They all excelled at engaging their workers, making them feel appreciated, and aligning them behind a mission. And remember, that’s not just our opinion: The employees told us that themselves,” says Eric Schurenberg, Inc.’s President and Editor in Chief.

Aside from this most recent recognition, Mosquito Joe has received a number of accolades in 2017 including a coveted ranking on Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 list, Top 200 Franchises of 2017 by Franchise Business Review and the top spot on Franchise Gator’s list of the New Year’s Fastest Growing Franchises.

We want to thank our leadership team for having the vision and drive to create our award-winning work environment; our Corporate staff for dedication not only to their work but to continual success of our company; and our franchisees who are the cornerstone of our success and the reason we come to work every day!

Death and Taxes…and Mosquitoes

Benjamin Franklin once said two things in life are certain: death and taxes. At Mosquito Joe we agree with that, but we also know that depending where you live, mosquitoes are pretty certain too. April 15th, around the time you mail off those tax forms,  is usually around the time when warmer temperatures and mosquito hatchings start to arrive. As mosquito professionals are gearing up for their season, tax professionals are wrapping up theirs, but not all tax businesses are ready to see their stream of business or customers end.

We have always known how well our business opportunity complemented other seasonal businesses, and we have seen some amazing growth in our franchisees that own tax businesses! As tax season draws to a close we’re excited to introduce you to three of our Mosquito Joe owners who also have experience in the tax world.

Chad Armstrong: Mosquito Joe of East Texas

chadThere’s no doubt Chad Armstrong has the entrepreneurial bug. (Pun intended.) After graduating from the University of Texas in 1995, he worked for the Farmers Insurance Group for 12 years until he realized that he wanted to have more of a voice in the work he did. In 1997 he started his own insurance agency and then opened nine Liberty Tax locations. When asked why he went into the mosquito business, he replied, “I was looking for ways to keep my employees working year-round. Tax is a seasonal business and I wanted to provide them with a full time job, and mosquito season happens to occur outside of the tax business period.” After three years in business in East Texas, we have a feeling the mosquitoes aren’t missed around their parts.

Rita Blackwell: Mosquito Joe of Spartanburg

Rita Blackwell, Owner of Mosquito JoeAs a former area developer and corporate employee for Liberty Tax, Rita is very familiar with the benefits of the franchising world. “One of the reasons I love a franchise business is the proven system. To have the phenomenal support of not only experts from corporate, but to also learn from the experience of other franchisees who are already successfully running their business is priceless.” Rita and her husband Eric are entering their first season of mosquito spraying in Spartanburg, SC, and have come to appreciate the benefits of a seasonal business; “During the peak times in a seasonal business, like in tax preparation as well as mosquito control for example, life can get hectic and crazy. The satisfaction of a much deserved break in the off-season is a wonderful thing to look forward to! Time to have fun with our family, review and recharge for our next season….you don’t get that in a 9-5 every day, every week business.

Liberty Tax and Mosquito Joe owner Trey PowellTrey Powell: Mosquito Joe of Lake Murray, SC

Three years ago, Trey and his wife Cindy, built their dream home on Lake Carolina in northeast Columbia, SC. The first night they moved in they were welcomed to the lake by billions of pesky bugs and mosquitoes covering the windows and outside of their house. After a year of trying different things to get rid of the insects, Trey and his wife asked Mosquito Joe to come out and spray their yard and home. Trey was so impressed with the service, he became very interested in the brand and a month later he decided to buy his first territory in Lexington. From customer to franchisee, that’s an endorsement we love to see (and Trey’s not the only one in that category). Trey worked with Liberty Tax Service for several years and had developed franchises in Virginia that he sold 12 years ago to move to South Carolina. He then developed over 100 Liberty Tax Stores in the state and is still currently working as an area developer for the brand.
