Women of Mosquito Joe: Stephanie Simon

If there is one thing we have learned it is that there are many misconceptions about women in the pest control industry! So while we could write a blog post about the pest control industry and why women are a good fit for Mosquito Joe, we thought there were a few people who could do a better job. In our new blog series the Women of Mosquito Joe, we’ll be highlighting the incredible women that are a part of the MoJo family and why it is no longer a man’s world!

This month we chatted with Stephanie Simon from Mosquito Joe of Northwest Arkansas. Stephanie and her husband own their franchise and Stephanie oversees the day to day operations of the business. She is a mother of three and runs the business out of her home, which gives her the flexibility to get the kids on the bus and to be at the dinner table every night. Her infectious personality and attention to detail have made her popular among the customers in NW Arkansas and at Mosquito Joe!

What do you find most empowering about your job?

Stephanie: I am the voice of the company.  I get to be the one who makes sure our customers are happy and taken care of from their initial call to their last treatment of the season.

There are often misconceptions around the pest control industry and in particular with women working in that industry. What are your thoughts on this?

Stephanie: The old standard is to ask the man to “kill that bug!” However, times are changing and women have been empowered over the years to be independent.  I don’t think of this field as “dirty.”  I find it exciting to be able to help other moms in my community to be able to enjoy their summers outside with their families.

Tell us about your typical day during the season.

Stephanie: I am up early making sure our technicians have everything thing they need for a successful day, including the correct routes, products and van supplies. Once the technicians are their way, I then get my kids off to school (until June that is). After the family is taken care of, I start on all my daily reports and get ready for the next few days of routes.  Throughout the day, I will check on my techs and answer all the customer calls, making sure everything is running smoothly.  I also make follow up calls and write thank you cards to all my new customers to make sure they know how grateful we are they chose Mosquito Joe.

When considering opening your own business, why did you choose Mosquito Joe?

Stephanie: I like having the support of a franchise and knowing I have the tools to make it work.  I like being able to stay at home with my family.  This service gives me the peace of mind to protect my family and the community from those disease-ridden outdoor pests.  The seasonality was a big factor as well, knowing that during the winter months and holidays, I won’t have to miss spending time with my extended family and friends.
