Women of MoJo: Julie Green

If there is one thing we’ve learned, it’s that there are many misconceptions about women in the pest control industry. So while we could write a blog post about why women are a good fit for Mosquito Joe, we thought there were a few people who could do a better job. In our blog series the Women of Mosquito Joe, we highlight the incredible women that are a part of the MoJo family and why it is no longer a man’s world!

This month we’re introducing you to one of the gals from the corporate office of Mosquito Joe. Julie Green is our Marketing Manager, and is part of the team behind the fun branding, taglines, and fun advertisements you see about Mosquito Joe. Julie hails from the City of Oaks and is a graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. Her husband’s naval career brought them to the area, and boy are we happy it did. She’s been with the company since we signed our first franchisee and is one of our franchisee’s go-to girls when they need marketing help. She has a background in public relations, communications and franchising and is known to enjoy a good glass of pinot noir when she isn’t chasing her son Mason and the silliest mutt of all time, Lilly.

  1. What brought you to Mosquito Joe? My husband is active duty in the Navy and we received orders to Norfolk, Virginia in 2011. After welcoming our first son in 2012 I was looking for jobs and came across a job posting for a position with an outdoor pest control company I had definitely never heard of. When I came in to meet the team, I came home so excited about the opportunity. That was four and a half years ago and 0 franchises. Today, I look around and think about what a crazy ride it’s been that we’re in 31 states and have 120 franchisees. I’m immensely glad I followed my gut and took a chance on that start up…Mosquito Joe is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
  2. What is your role in the Mosquito Joe business? I am the Marketing Manager for MoJo! I manage our public relations, social media and the awesome brand you all know and love. My main role is to be a point of contact for franchisees when they need some guidance in the marketing world. When they leave training their support system doesn’t end – we’re on standby for any of their needs. We like to tell them we’re their own built in marketing team and I love working with them every day.
  3. Why is a Mosquito Joe business a good fit for women? The opportunity is a perfect fit for women on so many different levels. A lot of times women are pulled between home life and career life and MoJo gives the opportunity to do both because it’s a mobile business. There’s so much flexibility and you need that when juggling kids and work. Women also really relate to needing the service and are able to not only have that discussion, but also connect with our customers on an important level.
  4. What do you find most empowering about your job? I can truly say I never thought my career would take me into the world of bugs, but I love it. While it isn’t so much about the actual bugs themselves (although my vast knowledge of them is a fun party trick now), I love working for a brand and service that gives people the ability to get back outside. My family and I are always outside whether we’re grilling, playing with our son and dog or just enjoying a beverage on the patio so I’m as passionate about our service as I am the brand. Also, I get to work with business owners everyday who make a difference in their community and that makes me happy above all else.Getting to help people realize their dreams is pretty empowering. Everyday I work with people who taken a leap of faith not only in themselves but also our brand and I take that pretty seriously. My main goal is to make sure my franchisees succeed, and marketing is a big part of that.
  5. Who is your inspiration and why? I would definitely have to say my mom and my sister. Being raised by strong, independent women was a gift for me. I feel like so much of my ambition and drive comes from watching them throughout my life. My Mom and Dad gave me so many opportunities that allowed me to find my wings, but I also got to watch my sister achieve some pretty awesome goals before I even graduated from college. All of those combined made it impossible not to think I could do anything I set my mind to. We’re all adults now, but they continue to be my role models. My mom is now actually an owner of her own Mosquito Joe franchise (that’s how much we love MoJo!) and my sister is in the academia world and has dedicated her life to making other people’s lives better. They are the most hilarious, passionate women I know and I’m so thankful they’re not only in my life, but are required to put up with me for all of time!

Thanks Julie!  We’re so proud she is helping lead the charge when it comes to marketing efforts for Mosquito Joe. If you’re interested in the Mosquito Joe opportunity and being a neighborhood hero in your community we’d love to hear from you. You could be the next Woman of Mosquito Joe!

Mosquito Joe Convention 2017: Rise Above the Rest

Our Fourth Annual Franchisee Convention took us south of the border to Cancun, Mexico! We decided to go big to celebrate our most successful year to date that included over 170 territories open across 30 states. We had a wonderful week sharing ideas, learning from one another, and welcoming new faces to the MoJo family. This year’s theme was Rise Above the Rest meant to not only celebrate our rapid growth but to set a goal of surpassing our competition and becoming the industry leader. It’s safe to say this was our best event yet with over 230 attendees!

CEO Kevin Wilson kicked off the event with his State of MoJo address to cover our progress as a franchise system so far and our goals for the coming year. Keynote speaker, Scott Stratten, discussed the impact that experiences with brands can have on people. He left the crowd inspired to bring the MoJo brand to life and make a difference in the lives of our customers through personality, kindness, and superior customer service.Mosquito Joe Convention - Group Photo

Throughout the week, franchisees attended a variety of breakout sessions in marketing, operations, and sales. These hour-long meetings offered franchisees the chance to learn about more nuanced topics in the mosquito control industry and specifically about the Mosquito Joe business model. New additions this year included an entire extra day of content and roundtable sessions that allowed franchisees to discuss a variety of topics in smaller groups and a more relaxed environment. This year we were excited to induct 5 franchisees into our prestigious Million Dollar Club, and they had the chance to sit on a panel in front of the system to give franchisees some fresh ideas and insight from the system’s top performers.

Of course, we couldn’t leave Cancun without having a little fun! We started the week off with a welcome cocktail reception and dinner on the beach, which gave everyone a chance to unwind after a long day of traveling. Our highlight event, the annual awards dinner and ceremony, was Thursday night. This was our chance to recognize some of our standout franchisees from the previous year while enjoying great food and even better company. We closed out the week with an electric beach party Friday night, allowing everyone to relax after an extremely productive few days.

At every Convention, we are amazed at the growth of this company, and this year was no different. Our franchisees are the reason Mosquito Joe is such a successful business. Thank you to all of our franchisees, vendors, and staff who attended this year’s event to make it so special.

It’s not too late to join the MoJo crew for 2018’s Convention, which will also be in Cancun! If you’re interested in franchising with Mosquito Joe, please visit our Franchise Information page and give us a call today!

Mosquito Joe Recognized by Leading Industry Publications as Top Franchise Opportunity for 2017

Mosquito Joe has been raising the bar in the pest control industry since it began franchising in 2013. Its unrivaled services make the outdoors fun again—the brand’s thorough sprays and backyard treatments create a strong barrier between families and mosquitoes. That’s why it’s no surprise that consumers across the country are increasingly relying on Mosquito Joe to rid their yards of pests. Especially as mosquito-borne illnesses like West Nile and the Zika virus continue to pose a threat, demand for the brand’s services is at an all-time high. But that rise in demand isn’t limited to consumers—Mosquito Joe’s franchise opportunity is also growing at record breaking rates. And the franchising industry is taking note.

Mosquito Joe has been ranked number one in category and number 26 overall on Entrepreneur’s 2017 Franchise 500 list. The brand earned that spot through a combination of its affordable costs and fees, impressive size and growth, strong support, promising brand strength and financial strength and stability. After receiving nearly 1,000 applications, Entrepreneur recognized that Mosquito Joe’s franchise opportunity stood out as one of the best for the year ahead, especially in the maintenance services segment.

“We’re incredibly excited and honored to be ranked so highly on Entrepreneur’s coveted Franchise 500 list. As a corporate team, we’re constantly working to improve our systems for our franchisees, so it’s great to see that hard work being recognized,” said Kevin Wilson, Mosquito Joe’s CEO. “We’re going to use this ranking as a strong jumping off point for the new year—Mosquito Joe will build on the momentum Entrepreneur’s ranking gives us by continuing to welcome top tier franchisees into our system in communities across the country.”

Entrepreneur isn’t the only industry publication recognizing Mosquito Joe’s strong potential for growth in 2017. The brand’s franchise opportunity also earned the top spot on Franchise Gator’s list of the new year’s fastest growing franchises. Not only does the number one ranking signal that Mosquito Joe is experiencing rapid expansion, it also shows that the brand is creating an environment in which its franchisees can thrive.

It’s clear that Mosquito Joe’s existing local owners back up that claim. The brand was also named one of the top 200 franchises of 2017 by Franchise Business Review. This ranking differs from the Franchise 500 and Franchise Gator in that it’s determined based on feedback from existing franchisees. That means Mosquito Joe’s owners gave the brand high scores when it comes to franchisee satisfaction.

Heading forward into the new year, Mosquito Joe plans to build on the momentum provided by these coveted rankings. With plans to partner with even more franchisees in key development markets like Colorado and Mississippi in the first quarter of the year alone, the brand will continue to position itself as the leading pest control franchise. And with 170-plus units already successfully operating, it’s clear that the brand’s system is working.

“Our goal for 2017 is to continue working with top quality franchisee candidates. The passionate and dedicated local owners currently operating in our system are ultimately the reason we received such high ratings from Entrepreneur, Franchise Gator and Franchise Business Review. That’s a trend we want to continue,” said Angela Paules, vice president of marketing at Mosquito Joe. “We’re looking forward to expanding our footprint and growing in new territories throughout the new year.”
